Large Quality Print, Small Footprint: Xerox 6279

  • 10/27/2008

On October 14th, Xerox Corporation introduced a new, more compact industrial printer targeted towards a variety of industries. The black and white Xerox 6279 Wide Format Printer is a digital scanner, printer and copier that features high speed scanning and sharp image quality at low running costs — and in a smaller size.

Xerox 6279 Wide Format Printer “We know that image quality is the number one concern of wide-format users with operating costs running a close second,” said Quincy Allen, president of Xerox Production Systems Group. “The image quality and speed of the Xerox 6279 meet those requirements.”

Williamsport, Pa.-based Cable Services Company, Inc. chose the 6279 system to produce CAD generated construction and engineering drawings. Because the company specializes in design and construction for the telecommunications industry, Cable Services needed a printer that was quick, reliable and produced high quality prints.

“Our customers expect us to quickly turn around documents because speed is critical in the telecommunications market,” said Mike Hite, drafting and design manager at Cable Services.

With 600 × 600 dpi printing and scanning capabilities and speeds at seven or nine “D-size” (24” x 36”) prints per minute, Cable Services was able to fulfill their customer demands. “With the 6279, we are able to respond to client demands quickly and produce high quality documents,” Hite said.

In addition to the printing features, Cable Services took advantage of the quality scanning the 6279 had to offer, since they regularly scan hard copy documents to electronic files or to print.

With the optional on-board scanner, the 6279 allows the user to scan up to six inches per second while printing simultaneously. The Wide Format Scan System allows the reproduction of water damaged or wrinkled originals by suppressing the background and saving the fine details of text and images.

With quality capabilities and the size to fit almost anywhere in an office, the 6279 can serve in various work environments, including commercial print shops and architectural, engineering and construction companies.

The 6279’s high degree of flexibility allows users to select from a wide range of configuration options including printer-only or copier-printer models. Users can also upgrade the system to color from the black and white scanning option that comes standard. The 24-bit color Total Accxes scanning option enables color workflows and lets users scan to create a color file, or scan and print to a networked color printer. These color and scanning options can be installed on-site, so the system can grow with a user’s business as additional capabilities are needed.

With the U.S. starting list price at approximately $23,000, Xerox will begin taking orders this quarter in North America and Europe, and worldwide in the first quarter of 2009.

“The price is so affordable that users can take advantage of the 6279 system where it best fits their needs, whether it’s in a construction manager’s onsite trailer, a home office of an architectural firm or on the production floor of a neighborhood print shop. It offers reliability that they can count on,” Allen said.
