Business Week
Student-led investing at business schools now not only teaches students how to make money, but it also teaches them social responsibility. Faculty and students at Columbia Business School and University of California Berkeley’s Haas School of Business are designating funds only toward firms with socially responsible business practices. After taking a course in socially responsible investment techniques, students at Haas chose firms based on their social, environmental and financial aspects. They are to start investing in companies this month.
Exchange Point of View
In addition to teaching college students about social and corporate responsibility, which will help shape tomorrow’s leaders for the business world they will inherit, there are other ways to educate young people about environment and sustainability. Corporations such as Xerox teach children and young adults about social responsibility through partnerships and other environmental initiatives. Xerox partnered with Outward Bound to help students learn the importance of taking care of the environment.
