“To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes.”
-Dean Kamen, Founder, FIRST Robotics program
What Is FIRST?
For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) engages high school students in subjects such as science, math, engineering and technology with fun activities and competitions.
For the last 15 years, Xerox volunteers have mentored high school as part of the FIRST Robotics program teaching them teamwork, creative thinking and problem solving skills, while helping the students build functional robots.
In the 2007 season of FIRST Robotics there were more than 1,000 teams throughout the world participating in the program. Of these, Xerox sponsored four: the X-Cats, SparX, XQ RobotiX, and the first all-female student team the NAZa.r.e.X.
The Program is facilitated by the Xerox Community Education Program.
